Experienced software engineer helping businesses build scalable, data-heavy applications that deliver results.
Scalable Data Architectures
I help design, build, and maintain scalable data architectures based on best-in-class, well-established technologies.
For data processing and analytics systems, I work with a mix of file storage systems like S3, SQL databases like PostgreSQL, and NoSQL databases like DynamoDB or Elasticsearch. My architecture choices vary based on data volume and usage patterns.
I built backend systems in Python and data pipelines with Spark, but I'm always interested in learning about and adopting new technologies and platforms.
I'm experienced with CI/CD pipelines that rely on Infrastructure-as-Code tools like CDK or Terraform to set up and evolve AWS cloud environments.
For user interfaces, I like to use the React/TypeScript/Next.js ecosystem and also have some experience with newer frameworks like Astro.

I focus on reducing complexity. Keeping it simple is a great way to deliver maintainable software while keeping a high development speed.
About Me
I am a freelance software engineer from Munich, Germany with 10 years of professional experience. After completing my studies at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) with an honors degree in Computer Science and various internships, I spent 3 years working in the IT department of BMW. Since 2022 I work as a freelance, software and data engineer. I'm always curious about new opportunities to work on interesting projects, either in the area or completely remote. My Projects
BMW's Cloud Native Data Lake
I was part of the team building a petabyte-scale data lake on AWS for the BMW Group. I primarily worked on data pipelines responsible for ingesting large quantities of data through batch and streaming processes and lead a team of 10 engineers building the data portal that enables users across the organization to work with data. You can find a more detailed description of the project on the AWS blog.
Stock Option Trading App
A stock options trading platform helping traders optimize their investment strategies. I helped build two tools: a calculator that helped predict the profitability of different stock option strategies and an "opportunity scanner" that helped traders find profitable investment opportunities. As lead engineer, I helped architect, build, and run these tools with a focus on keeping the prices of more than 500k contracts up to date and displaying them in a performant web app.
Pyne Studio
Together with my wife, I run a fashion brand where we design, produce, and sell vintage-inspired one-of-a-kind pieces. We sell online and via boutique wholesale-platforms and I take care of that. I built our custom home page and online shop, and make sure that our product data is synced correctly between our sales channels. I also take care of customer communications and have recently taken up tailoring.
AI Pricing Engine
A web app tailored to retail merchants that automatically imports a merchant's stock and sales data to make automated, data-driven pricing decisions. The system uses a mixture of battle-tested industry heuristics, modern AI models, and data analytics to create recommendations for pricing and inventory planning. I was the main developer responsible for designing and implementing the entire application dealing with the data ingestion and processing, as well as the customer-facing web application.
Multichannel Solution for Retail
An app that allows fashion retailers to sell their stock on various online channels like Amazon and Zalando. It takes care of stock upload, order processing, and smart pricing. I was responsible for evolving the product's architecture to be more reliable and cost-efficient, and managed to achieve a 40% reduction in monthly cloud spend while at the same time decreasing the number of customer incident reports.
